The similarities between Snape and Holofernes is spot on and I love the contrast in expression between Bella and Judith. Peter's hand is cool too - haven't seen to many pieces of him with the silver hand.
Absolutely worth whatever insane amount of time you put into this.
Also yay Caravaggio - if you haven't seen any of his paintings in the canvas (so to speak) you need to - they're breathtaking.

My roommate actually reminded me about the silver hand- and now I'm definitely glad I put it in. Wasn't sure anyone would notice it, so kudos to you for paying attention :)
I don't think anything is worth the time I put into this. :P I started this the last time this challenge was offered, so... last january? Grand total I think I spent around 70 hours on this...
And I also haven't yet had a chance to see any of his work in person- it is most definitely a life goal, however. Caravaggio has been one of my favorite artists for years.

I added the spiraly crucio bit as an afterthought and it is now one of my favorite parts of the painting. Glad you liked it too :)

Oh, wow, this is absolutley amazing. I have been obsessed with different versions of this painting since I was in highschool. I like Artemisia Gentileschi's version of it better than Caravaggio's, but you've captured everything I love about Gentileschi's version in your art - most notably the fierce determination on Bella's face, not at all squeamish like the Judith in the Caravaggio piece.
So, so much love.

I've been a Caravaggio fan since high school, so I suppose I'm a little bit biased, but I have seen the Gentileschi version before, and I do like it a lot. I agree with you on Judith's face in Caravaggio's version- I knew had to change it a lot to fit with Bella's personality. Glad you like how it turned out :)

No wonder it took you so much time! But it was worth it!!!
(Btw, anyone else see the Caravaggio movie by Derek Jarman? I recall it was really slashy... ;o) We watched it in art class, and suddenly it became quite... explicit... and everyone was like OMG. hehe.)

And mouse drawing sucks. I know very few people who can do it well, not to mention it is far more time consuming.

The lighting is perfect, and I love your interpretation of Bella.
She looks so calm about the horrible thing she's doing, but there is also a fierceness under her serene expression. Her dress is wonderful, too.
I also like the inclusion of Wormtail's silver hand.

This was a fantastic use of the painting! You know, I don't think I've ever seen the Cruciatus curse portrayed in artwork.
